Architecture could be so many things but is Political by nature.

As a creative medium subject to being manipulated and shaped by a wide range of factors, each piece of it stands as a material manifestation of particular ‘Values’.

At its best it can be compassionate and considered - at is worst, corrupted and complicit. It can be a progressive force or a regressive one. It can help or hinder in equal measure.

Paintings, Posters, Photographs and Prose that concern themselves with critiquing the subject of architecture are hereby seen as a form of Political Art.

Using the directness and immediacy of graphic art, the slogan & the song lyric, aims to interrogate the extent to which Architecture is ‘Part Of The Problem’ or ‘Part Of The Solution’ when looking at the many issues we are facing in the C21st.

nunswithgunsdesign produces work as a project parallel to practice. It emanates from a moral anxiety and doubt around being an architect.

Its starting point is a dissatisfaction with the role and a questioning of the intentions within the architectural profession, the property and building industry at large, its processes and its end product.

It is also about the difference between Buildings and Architecture. It is about what is contemporary, what has gone before in history and what might be in the future.

By spotlighting issues and themes, the work looks for a route towards a more enlightened & progressive method of practice that can make a difference for the better….

….and so that architects can be more trusted and and architecture seen as more true to life.

It is time for more ethics and less aesthetics….
