2 bedroom apartment
area: 1476sqft / 137sqm This project took an un-modernised split-level two-bedroom apartment in a Grade II listed building and completely gutted it in order to carry out a comprehensive refurbishment. The client brief was to create a minimal, modernist interior that avoided being cold and clinical in feel. The client requested an apartment whose walls would provide a blank canvas on which to display artworks. Whilst the floor to ceiling joinery units had minimal detailing to stand as an ‘invisible’ extension of the white wall surfaces, the wide oak floorboards were chosen specifically because of their colour and texture which introduced a warm tone to the spaces. Particular emphasis was placed upon the bathroom spaces, most notably the master en-suite. Here the challenge was to create a steam room/large shower enclosure in a bathroom that was open to the bedroom. The bath itself was positioned as a timber clad furniture item between the two spaces whilst a large 3m sliding panel allowed the bathroom to be screened off. The bathroom walls, floors, vanity and shower room bench were all clad in large slabs of technical stone and detailed so that floors folded into walls as a continuous surface.
